The Leather Industry in Šoštanj presents in the first part the chronological review of the 210 years old tradition of the leather industry in Šoštanj; everything from the establishment of the Vošnjak leather factory in 1788 to the ascent into the heavy industry and to the abolition of the factory in 1999. The influence of the Vošnjak family is stressed in the exhibition, as well as the influence of the factory on the economic development of Šoštanj, which wears a special seal of the town with the smell of leather. A worker’s flat, the director’s office, the Lujek’s shoemaking workshop, drops from the life, and different destinies of the Vošnjak industrial leaders are shown through the ambience presentations in the second part of the exhibition. The cultural and the social life of Šoštanj people are presented through the activity of societies; the everyday life of a man – a worker at work, his home, and his family are shown as well. | More
The Leather Machines in the outer pavilion presents the most important machines and gadgets for manufacturing of leather from skins. The machines and gadgets reach into the beginning of 20th century, into the time of the industrial swing in Slovenia. The presentation contains the visit and the presentation of how the machines work, and the examination of the industrial production of leather. | More
